It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Monache had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Selma Bears and snuck past 12-10. The victory was some much needed relief for Monache as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Tyson Chavez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayson Castillo, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
On Selma's side, Jacob Hernandez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-5 with two runs, a triple, and two RBI. Reynaldo Cruz II was another key contributor, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5.
Even though they lost, Selma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monache only posted an OBP of .350.
Monache's win bumped their record up to 13-15-1. As for Selma, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season.
Monache will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Dinuba at 4:30 p.m. Selma does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
