Baseball Recap: Kolt Hopper Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mccluer

St. Dominic never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against McCluer on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Comets an 18-0 shutout. Considering the Crusaders have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Brennan Swindler was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other pitching news, Dylan Dawson looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Back at the plate, Kolt Hopper was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Anthony Flamm Jr. was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

St. Dominic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

St. Dominic's record now sits at 21-9-1. As for McCluer, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-7.

As of now, neither St. Dominic nor the Comets have any future games scheduled.
