Basketball Recap: Mountain View Comes Up Short

Mountain View played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Northridge Grizzlies and fell 57-28. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mountain Lions have suffered against the Grizzlies since February 7, 2020.

When it comes to explaining why Mountain View lost, don't look at Marlene Carrillo. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Carrillo is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played.

Northridge found their leader in sophomore Sophia Carbajal, who almost dropped a triple-double on 25 points, 16 boards, and nine steals. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for Carbajal. Clementine Darnell was another key player, putting up eight points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Mountain View dropped their record down to 5-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Northridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season.

Mountain View will square off against Greeley Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Greeley Central will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Mountain View surely won't give up without a fight. Northridge has already played their next game, a 56-37 victory against Brighton on the 18th.
