Softball Recap: Piedra Vista Takes Down Ranked Volcano Vista

Piedra Vista faced Volcano Vista in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Panthers blew past the Hawks 15-5. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by ten runs or more this season.

MICHAELA PEREA and ISABELLA JESSEE did most of the damage at the plate: PEREA went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while JESSEE went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI JESSEE has posted since back in March. KAITLYN TAFOYA was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Piedra Vista lost a few balls and finished the game with six home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win (which was Piedra Vista's fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Volcano Vista, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Piedra Vista Panthers take on Cibola Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Volcano Vista, they will head out to take on Rio Rancho at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight.
