Baseball Recap: Tanque Verde Sets Scoring Season-High Against Tombstone

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tanque Verde). They put the hurt on the Tombstone Yellow Jackets with a sharp 20-7 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Yellow Jackets: they've now won four in a row.

Landon Walker and Dylan Lewis were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Walker pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Lewis pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Walker a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, Walker fired off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-4, while Lewis scored three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Tanque Verde is 8-1-1 when Walker posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as nine players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Orr, who scored a run while going 3-for-5. Liam Brunell was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Tanque Verde kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matchups.

Tanque Verde's record now sits at 10-4-1. As for Tombstone, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-5-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Hawks coming up.
