The Trinidad Miners will head out to square off against the Monte Vista Pirates at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Trinidad is looking for their season's first victory.
Sanford hit Trinidad with a ten-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Miners came up short against the Mustangs, falling 15-9. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Miners' highest-scoring contest to date.
Trinidad saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brett Kendall, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista got themselves on the board against Center last Saturday, but Center never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Vikings. Considering the Pirates have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jeremiah Baumgardner and Judah Howe made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Baumgardner pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Howe pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Baumgardner went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Howe got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Chayse Bouet was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Monte Vista's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Azariah Hurtado, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Monte Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Monte Vista has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Trinidad, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Trinidad came up short against Monte Vista when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 10-5. Can the Miners avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
