Elm Creek entered their tilt with Wilcox-Hildreth on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 42-34 victory over the Falcons. The Buffaloes have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Falcons, too.

Elm Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keston Beavers led the charge by rushing for 126 yards and one score. Blake Erickson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Wilcox-Hildreth saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Drew Blank rushed for 155 yards and one TD on only 13 carries, and also threw for 110 yards and one touchdown. Blank's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Brody Patterson was another key back, rushing for 60 yards and one score.

Elm Creek's record now sits at 6-2. As for Wilcox-Hildreth, they dropped their record down to 4-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Elm Creek will host Deshler at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Beavers and Quincy Orme. As for Wilcox-Hildreth, they will venture away from home to square off against Central Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' defense has only allowed 4.9 points per game this season, so the Falcons' offense will have their work cut out for them.
