Basketball Game Preview: Olympia Spartans vs. Riverton Hawks

The Olympia Spartans are taking a road trip to take on the Riverton Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 12 consecutive losses for Olympia and nine for Riverton.

Olympia is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Bloomington Central Catholic on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Olympia lost 63-40 to Bloomington Central Catholic. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 493rd, while the Saints are ranked 83rd).

Meanwhile, Riverton was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 49-44 to Sangamon Valley/Tri-City.

Olympia's defeat dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Riverton, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-19.

Olympia strolled past Riverton in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 49-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Olympia since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
