Softball Recap: Greater Nanticoke Area Comes Up Short

Greater Nanticoke Area extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They came up short against the Holy Redeemer Royals, falling 22-1. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 11-0 to the Royals when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Holy Redeemer, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 8.3 runs per game.

For Holy Redeemer's part, Anne Carter was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Carter has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That run marked the first that she has scored this season.

In other batting news, Holy Redeemer got a massive performance out of Abby Williams, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base was Williams' first of the season. Zoe Pecuch was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Greater Nanticoke Area has already played their next matchup, an 11-4 defeat against Hanover Area on the 16th. As for Holy Redeemer, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 8-6 loss against Wyoming Area on the 21st.
