Softball Recap: Centennial Hawks vs. Mayfield Trojans
Centennial extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 12-5. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mayfield Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, with their most recent loss being a 15-3 defeat on Thursday.
Centennial saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Sanchez, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Another was Aubrey Duncan, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
As for Mayfield, the win keeps them at an undefeated 17-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.6 runs this season.
On Mayfield's side, Genesis Angel was a standout: she fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most home runs Angel has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Oliver, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Centennial will take on rival Gadsden at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mayfield is set to square off against their familiar foe Alamogordo at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 2.9, the Tigers 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
