Basketball Recap: New Castle Takes a Loss

New Castle's game on Tuesday was all tied up 11-11 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 34-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Vernon Marauders. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Marauders are ranked 41st).

Despite the loss, New Castle saw an underclassman step up: freshman Carlee Lanzer posted 13 points and five rebounds.

Mt. Vernon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zoey Wood, who put up 22 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wood has scored at least a third of Mt. Vernon's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Thomas, who earned 11 points.

New Castle has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Mt. Vernon, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-6.

New Castle has already played their next matchup (against Anderson), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Mt. Vernon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-52 win against Delta on the 30th.
