Baseball Game Preview: Columbus North Bull Dogs vs. Westfield Shamrocks

The Columbus North Bull Dogs will square off against the Westfield Shamrocks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Columbus North has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Friday just wasn't the day for Columbus North's offense. They fell just short of Columbus East by a score of 2-0 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bull Dogs have suffered since May 22, 2024.

Joey Fry was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Westfield got themselves on the board against Greenwood Christian Academy on Monday, but Greenwood Christian Academy never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Cougars.

JP Mears looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Ian Wilson was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Garrett Pohler also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Columbus North's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Westfield, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.

Everything went Columbus North's way against Westfield when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Columbus North made off with a 10-2 victory. Will the Bull Dogs repeat their success, or do the Shamrocks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
