Baseball Recap: Berkeley Prep Falls to Tampa Catholic in First Game of Season

Berkeley Prep unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Tampa Catholic Crusaders by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Buccaneers of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Berkeley Prep got a good showing from Rivers Kurland, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, Kurland also gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Berkeley Prep saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Farrar, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

The victory made it two in a row for Tampa Catholic and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Coming up, Berkeley Prep will welcome Trinity Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Tampa Catholic, they will head out to take on Seffner Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
