Football Recap: City View Keeps Jacksboro's Under Pressure

If City View was feeling good fresh off their 52-27 takedown of Childress two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The contest between the Mustangs and the Jacksboro Tigers didn't end well, with the Mustangs falling 49-34. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why City View lost on Friday, don't look at Malachi Williams. Despite the final result, he threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 72 yards and one TD. Brian Collier helped out on the ground, rushing for 80 yards.

Even if they lost, City View's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. They received some extra help from Jayden Bradford, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Wyatt Gavit had a dynamite game For Jacksboro., rushing for 90 yards and a pair of scores, while also throwing for 217 yards and three TDs while completing 82.4% of his passes. What's more, Gavit posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kris Wicks, who picked up 54 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

City View's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Jacksboro, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. City View is set to face off against their familiar foe Henrietta at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 928 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Jacksboro will square off against rival Millsap at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
