For the first time this season, Maclay will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will welcome the Florida State University High School Seminoles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Maclay's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Jefferson County as they made off with a 17-0 victory. The Marauders haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Landon Barineau was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of JR Thompson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Maclay hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Florida State University High School, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Rickards with a sharp 11-1 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Seminoles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Florida State University High School also got a great performance from Sam Clark as he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Nile Burke was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Cole Allbaugh, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Maclay's win bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Florida State University High School, their victory bumped their record up to 6-17.
Maclay skirted past Florida State University High School 2-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Marauders repeat their success, or do the Seminoles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
