The Pelion Panthers will head out to challenge the High Point Academy Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Pelion's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
Pelion can't be too worried about heading out to take on High Point Academy: they just beat Fox Creek at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Predators on Tuesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Savanna Padgett, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024. Summer Randolph was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, High Point Academy sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Landrum on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Grizzlies.
Julie Raines spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, High Point Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cheyenne Howard, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
High Point Academy pushed their record up to 9-10 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pelion, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pelion hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like High Point Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
