Softball Recap: Sandia Takes a Loss

Sandia and Mayfield squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Sandia had to settle for second. They fell 5-2 to the Trojans. The Matadors' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Liliana Villanueva was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Villanueva was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run.

Sandia's loss dropped their record down to 15-12. As for Mayfield, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 20-6.

Sandia does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mayfield has already played their next matchup (against Carlsbad), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
