Softball Recap: Greenbrier Christian Academy Snags 17th Win in Last 18 Games

While Greenbrier Christian Academy put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Chincoteague. The Gators blew past the Ponies 10-0. Considering the Gators have won 17 games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Katelyn Balka made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

Balka wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Haleigh Murphy, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Another was Ava Brinkley, who went 1-for-2 with three runs.

Greenbrier Christian Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chincoteague struck out 15 times.

Greenbrier Christian Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chincoteague, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

Greenbrier Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 victory against Hampton Christian Academy on the 8th. As for Chincoteague, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 11-1 win against Wicomico on the 5th.
