Baseball Recap: Gibson Southern Takes a Loss

If Gibson Southern was feeling good fresh off their 7-1 takedown of Evansville Mater Dei on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Titans fell 5-2 to the Castle Knights on Monday. The Titans haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Gibson Southern got a good showing from Kolton Schmitt, who struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Schmitt has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Grant Stinson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Gibson Southern suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 21-7. As for Castle, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.

Gibson Southern and Castle are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Titans will challenge Washington at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Gibson Southern is facing the Hatchets at the right time seeing as the Hatchets are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Castle, they will take on Evansville North at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 3.2, the Huskies 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
