Baseball Recap: Homer Takes a Loss

Homer had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it 11. They fell just short of the Skaneateles Lakers by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered since May 16, 2024.

As for Skaneateles, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games.

For Skaneateles' part, McKendell Sweeney tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over six innings pitched. Sweeney also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Lakers are undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Torin Bennett, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Luke Ellis was another key player, earning two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Homer will face off against Cazenovia at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans are facing the Lakers at the right time seeing as the Lakers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Skaneateles, they will take on Phoenix at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Firebirds will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Lakers surely won't give up without a fight.
