Softball Recap: Perquimans' Winning Streak Snapped at 13 Games

Perquimans dropped their record down to 26-3 on Saturday, which also ended the team's 13-game streak of wins. They fell 4-1 to the Union Academy Cardinals. The Pirates were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Cardinals' pitcher proved too tough.

As for Union Academy, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 28-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.1 runs on average over those games.

For Union Academy's part, Avery Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. Wilson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Union Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlie Granger, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

While Perquimans had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
