Basketball Recap: Bridgeton Bulldogs vs. Hammonton Blue Devils
The Bridgeton Bulldogs had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 72-69 win over Hammonton on Thursday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Bridgeton's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 96th).
Leading Bridgeton to victory were Zikwon Anderson and Jameel Purnell. Anderson scored 23 points, while Purnell dropped a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds. Purnell has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last eight times he's played. Zamir Chance was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Bridgeton's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11. As for Hammonton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-6.
Bridgeton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Chiefs at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Buena is out to stop a 11-game streak of losses at home. Hammonton will take on the Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
