Basketball Recap: Varela Vipers vs. Coral Park Rams

After flying high against Mater Brickell Academy last Tuesday, Varela came back down to earth. The Varela Vipers took a 59-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coral Park Rams on Thursday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vipers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-42 back in December of 2024.

Alex Perez and Aaron Reyes certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Perez went 6 for 9 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds, while Reyes posted 12 points and five boards.

It was another big night for Angel Lara, who went 12 of 20 en route to 27 points along with eight assists and seven boards for Coral Park. The game was Lara's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Alejandro Camacho was another key player, putting up ten points.

Varela's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Coral Park, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Varela didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 61-49 defeat against Braddock on the 24th. Coral Park has also already played their next contest, a 76-56 loss against Dade Christian on the 27th.
