Football Recap: South Summit Wildcats vs. Layton Christian Academy Eagles
South Summit lost against Layton Christian Academy back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wildcats took a 29-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. The matchup marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Although South Summit took the loss, they still got scores from Ammon Marchant and Ian Mair.
South Summit didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Marchant and Blake Osguthorpe. Marchant got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Layton Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chris Munroe, who rushed for 53 yards and two TDs on only six carries, and also threw for 155 yards and one touchdown on only 12 passes. That's the most rushing yards Munroe has posted since back in August of 2024. Jerome Vito was another key receiver, picking up 106 receiving yards and one score.
This is the second loss in a row for South Summit and nudges their season record down to 2-4. As for Layton Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Summit will challenge Summit Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last. As for Layton Christian Academy, they will take on Judge Memorial Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
