Baseball Recap: Lutheran Comes Up Short

Lutheran had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 10-9 to make it four. They lost 13-5 to the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 9-5 to the Red-Tailed Hawks when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lutheran saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan McDougal, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Jack Wesolowski was another, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Cheyenne Mountain, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the match before.

On Cheyenne Mountain's side, Colton Johnson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Johnson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nate Glad, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Javin Eslinger, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Coming up, Lutheran will take on Thomas Jefferson at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Cheyenne Mountain will be paying especially close attention to the Lions' contest: after the Lions face off against the Spartans, they'll take on Cheyenne Mountain again at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
