Football Game Preview: Marin Catholic Wildcats vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals + Official Tickets

The Marin Catholic Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Cardinal Newman Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Marin Catholic comes in on three and Cardinal Newman on seven.

Marin Catholic's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Rancho Cotate 27-0. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Cougars are ranked 249th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman strolled past San Marin with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 17-0.

The critical scores for Cardinal Newman came from Jonah Bertoli and Kordel Strane.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 11 in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Strane, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

One reason for the win was Cardinal Newman's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. San Marin's QB won't forget Bertoli anytime soon given he sacked him twice.

Cardinal Newman's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Marin Catholic, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Marin Catholic came up short against Cardinal Newman in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 20-7. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
