Softball Recap: Broughton Has No Trouble Against Sanderson

While Broughton put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Sanderson. Broughton put the hurt on Sanderson with a sharp 17-0 win. The Capitals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.

Ruby Kalkbrenner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kalkbrenner was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Broughton got a massive performance out of Avery Troxell, who fired off three home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-3. Those three home runs gave Troxell a new career-high. Lucy Bertram was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Broughton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .722. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Broughton's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sanderson, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Broughton will have a chance to go back-to-back against Sanderson: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
