St. Edward (Elgin, Ill.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 43-26 win over
Chicago Christian (Palos Heights, Ill.).
The Green Wave scored 15 points in the first quarter. St. Edward scored on a touchdown run by
Davontae Elam, a touchdown, a
Mike Castoro touchdown run and a two-point conversion.
SE was up 30-20 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown in the first quarter.
Elam stood out for the Elgin school in the win. The junior running back ran for three touchdowns.
Christian Bolhuis made a difference for the Knights. The sophomore quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Green Wave, which was coming off a 25-7 defeat at the hands of Aurora Central Catholic in its previous game. The loss comes after Chicago Christian defeated Guerin College Prep 21-0 last week.
Chicago Christian (2-4) will play a Suburban Christian - Gold game against Walther Lutheran next week, while St. Edward (2-4) will take on Wheaton Academy in a non-conference game.
