Softball Game Preview: Buckhorn Bucks vs. Lawrence County Red Devils

The Buckhorn Bucks will head out to take on the Lawrence County Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Buckhorn nor Lawrence County posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Hazel Green hit Buckhorn with a five-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bucks lost 11-0 to the Trojans. The shutout was out of character for the Bucks seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in February.

Meanwhile, Lawrence County got themselves on the board against Russellville on Thursday, but Russellville never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Tigers 2-0. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Not much got past McKinley McCaghren, who gave up just two hits to keep Russellville off the board. McCaghren has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bella Cross was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

Buckhorn now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Lawrence County, their win bumped their record up to 23-7-1.

Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Buckhorn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Lawrence County struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
