Basketball Game Preview: Weldon Valley Warriors vs. Lone Star Longhorns

The Weldon Valley Warriors and the Lone Star Longhorns will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.

On Thursday, Weldon Valley had to suffer through a 66-27 loss at the hands of Front Range Baptist. The match marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Lone Star hadn't done well against Idalia recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Lone Star skirted past Idalia 45-43.

Weldon Valley better focus on containing Grant Kuntz and Anderson Weathers as the pair were huge in Lone Star's win. Kuntz dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards, while Weathers went 6 for 9 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Kuntz a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Jesus Hermosillo, who posted seven points and six rebounds.

Lone Star smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Weldon Valley's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Lone Star, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season.

Weldon Valley couldn't quite finish off Lone Star when the teams last played back in December of 2024 and fell 40-37. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kuntz, who earned 21 points along with seven boards and five assists.
