Basketball Recap: Peekskill Starts off Right with Win over Sleepy Hollow

Peekskill had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 32-22 win over the Sleepy Hollow Horsemen on Thursday. For the Red Devils, this counts as revenge for the 35-19 victory the Horsemen walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2020.

Peekskill was led to victory by Amari Murphy and Jayla Smith. Murphy almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds, while Smith posted 11 points and five boards. Murphy's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Despite the loss, Sleepy Hollow saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lauren Monachelli had eight points.

Peekskill wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 62-22 defeat against Westlake on the 7th. As for Sleepy Hollow, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-17 loss against Mamaroneck on the 7th.
