Football Game Preview: Alleghany Cougars vs. Wilson Memorial Green Hornets

The Alleghany Cougars will square off against the Wilson Memorial Green Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Alleghany sitting on six straight victories and Wilson Memorial on three.

Alleghany gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They strolled past Buffalo Gap with points to spare, taking the game 27-11. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Bison are ranked 227th).

Alleghany had a senior duo take command as Haiden Nicely threw for 184 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes and Jaquin Godfrey picked up 74 receiving yards and two scores.

Meanwhile, Wilson Memorial's rock-solid defense showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Rockbridge County 52-0. The Green Hornets' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Wilson Memorial didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Isaiah Scott and Andrew Haley.

Alleghany's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Wilson Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Everything came up roses for Alleghany against Wilson Memorial in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 44-14 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Green Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
