Baseball Recap: Cardinal Newman Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory

Cardinal Newman hadn't done well against St. John Paul II Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Crusaders never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory. The game was the first time the Crusaders have beaten the Eagles on their field since May 1, 2017.

St. John Paul II Academy's batters probably weren't too happy with Blake Anderson, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 12 Ks (he gave up a single walk). Anderson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cardinal Newman saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Demarzo, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Finn Duran was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for Cardinal Newman and bumps their season record up to 18-2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for St. John Paul II Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-7-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cardinal Newman will challenge Seminole Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for St. John Paul II Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Spanish River at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
