Football Recap: Cardinal Newman Falls to Manteca in First Game of Season

Cardinal Newman unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a blow against the Manteca Buffaloes on Friday, falling 40-7. The Cardinals were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-0.

When it comes to explaining why Cardinal Newman lost, don't look at Pathoumnourack Malakai. Despite the final result, he rushed for 71 yards and one score.

Nikko Juarez had an outrageously good game for Manteca as he rushed for 206 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.4 yards per carry. Juarez really tore up the turf during one magnificent 87-yard run.

Manteca's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.
