Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Southside walked away with it. They strolled past the Cottage Hill Christian Academy Warriors with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 39-22. The Panthers' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Cedrick Simmons had another great game (as he tends to do), picking up 207 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while also throwing for seven yards and one TD. His receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 183 receiving yards. Kole Moody was another key player, having thrown for 382 yards and two touchdowns.
Southside's run defense was locked in: Cottage Hill Christian Academy could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least eight total tackles, Michael Hosea stood above the rest. He picked up four sacks and made eight total tackles (5.0 for loss). Southside's ground attack was stronger, having averaged five.
Southside's defense also made the game a nightmare for Shamar Toodle, racking up 11 sacks. Hosea led the group effort, picking up four of those sacks all by himself. Thanks to that big game, Aarron Bonner is now up to 11 sacks on the season.
Despite the loss, Cottage Hill Christian Academy had strong showings from Caleb Metzner, who gained 168 total yards and three touchdowns, and Toodle, who threw for 316 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt. Metzner also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making 11 total tackles and defending one pass.
Southside's record now sits at 12-0. As for Cottage Hill Christian Academy, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-2.
Looking ahead, Southside will challenge Glenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Panthers 11.2, the Gators 15) so any points scored will be well earned. Cottage Hill Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
