Softball Recap: Monta Vista Comes Up Short

Monta Vista extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 22 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They came up short against the Cupertino Pioneers, falling 17-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 25-3 on Friday.

As for Cupertino, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-8. Considering they have won 11 games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Cupertino's part, Purani Muthuvedi was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Muthuvedi has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Dayoung Jung, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Monta Vista will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Saratoga at 4:00 p.m. The Matadors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season. As for Cupertino, they are taking a road trip to challenge MacDonald at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Condor have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.47 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
