Baseball Recap: Charlestown Takes a Loss

Charlestown suffered their closest loss since May 11, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of the North Harrison Cougars by a score of 4-2. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Garret Titzer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Charlestown saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lex Rose, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. Zach Helton was another, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Charlestown's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-3. As for North Harrison, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charlestown will head out to face off against Trinity Lutheran at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for North Harrison, they are taking a road trip to challenge Heritage Hills at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
