Recap: Alma Cardinals vs. Southern Valley Eagles
After a string of 13 wins, the Alma Cardinals's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. The match between Alma and Southern Valley wasn't particularly close, with Alma falling 54-40. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Alma has scored all season.
Alma lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tierston Moore, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Moore has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Riley Scott, who scored 16 points.
Alma's defeat dropped their record down to 15-2. As for Southern Valley, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-1.
Alma will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Paxton at 1:30 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Paxton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday. As for Southern Valley, they will square off against Maywood/Hayes Center at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Maywood/Hayes Center's defense has only allowed 29.9 points per game this season, so Southern Valley's offense will have their work cut out for them.
