Baseball Recap: Blackford Comes Up Short

Blackford had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-7 to make it five. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eastbrook Panthers. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Bruins couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Eastbrook, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

For Eastbrook's part, Carter Daugherty made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Daugherty has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Eastbrook is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Ryder Gipson was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Malakai Luthy was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Blackford didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 9-0 defeat against Alexandria-Monroe on the 30th. As for Eastbrook, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 7-3 win against Mississinewa on the 2nd.
