The Herscher Tigers will head out to square off against the Bradley-Bourbonnais Boilermakers at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Herscher will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Herscher proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over Lexington.
Anistin Hackley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Hackley was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Emery Fritz was a standout: she scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). RyLyn Adams was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Herscher was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .417 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Bradley-Bourbonnais gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Marian Catholic. The victory continues a trend for the Boilermakers in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won six in a row.
Lydia Hammond made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Hammond was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Suttyn Hop, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Bella Pusateri, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Herscher's record is now 3-0. As for Bradley-Bourbonnais, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
Herscher came up short against Bradley-Bourbonnais in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, falling 11-6. Can Herscher avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
