Preview: Santa Monica Vikings vs. Santa Ana Saints
The Santa Monica Vikings will be playing at home against the Santa Ana Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Santa Monica missed an extra point against Culver City on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Santa Monica and Culver City were almost perfectly matched up, but Santa Monica suffered an agonizing 27-26 defeat. Santa Monica just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
Despite their loss, Santa Monica saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Wyatt Brown, who rushed for 30 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Mccallum, who gained 154 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Santa Ana's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a hard 14-0 fall against Orange. The low total for Santa Ana limited their streak of high-flying scores to seven in a row.
Santa Monica's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 6-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-0 Palos Verdes (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.7% over those games). As for Santa Ana, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
