It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Hilliard Darby ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats 4-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Marley Grigsby spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lorelai Gum was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaydence Speelman, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Hilliard Darby's victory bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Hilliard Davidson, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Coming up, Hilliard Darby will head out to face off against Hilliard Bradley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Hilliard Davidson, they will face off against Dublin Jerome at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats are facing the Celtics at the right time seeing as the Celtics are stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
