Preview: Carson City-Crystal Eagles vs. Vestaburg Wolverines
Carson City-Crystal has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Vestaburg Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of these teams found much success offensively their last time out, scoring well below their season average.
Carson City-Crystal suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They were beaten by Merrill 50-14.
Meanwhile, Vestaburg's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 62-20 loss at the hands of St. Louis. While losing is never fun, Vestaburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 419th, while St. Louis is ranked 145th).
Despite the defeat, Vestaburg had strong showings from Lily Johnston, who scored nine points, and Megan Beetley, who scored six points. That was a full 45% of Vestaburg's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Carson City-Crystal dropped their record down to 0-9 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Vestaburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Carson City-Crystal took their victory against Vestaburg when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 49-29. Will Carson City-Crystal repeat their success, or does Vestaburg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
