The Brillion Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Southern Door Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Brillion's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Southern Door's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
It was a proper cat-fight when Brillion took on Chilton on Friday. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Tigers 8-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
Meanwhile, Southern Door waltzed into their game on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They put the hurt on the Clippers with a sharp 16-0 victory. Considering the Eagles have won three matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashlyn Delfosse and Samantha Melville made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Delfosse tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Melville pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Delfosse has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Delfosse went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Melville went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Delfosse also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Madyson Counard and Alanah Kaye did most of the damage at the plate: Counard went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Kaye went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Kaye has launched this season. Audrey Plzack was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Southern Door always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Southern Door's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Brillion, their record is now 12-1.
Brillion skirted past Southern Door 5-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
