Baseball Game Preview: Steel Valley Ironmen vs. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chargers

The Steel Valley Ironmen will venture away from home to square off against the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chargers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Steel Valley has three straight victories, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, Steel Valley made easy work of McKeesport and carried off an 11-1 win.

Jorden Smith was a standout: he scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Logan Thomas was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Steel Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McKeesport only posted an OBP of .440.

Meanwhile, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Quaker Valley by a score of 8-7.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Steel Valley, their victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0.
