Volleyball Preview: Ysleta Indians vs. Fabens Wildcats
Ysleta has enjoyed the comforts of home their last five games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Fabens Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Ysleta earned a 3-1 victory over Riverside.
Ysleta was especially dominant in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16.
Ysleta can attribute much of their success to Crystal Espinoza, who had 32 digs and two aces, and Raelene Lopez, who had 12 digs and two aces. That's the most aces Lopez has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Iris Lozano, who had 13 digs.
Ysleta was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 0 aces per game earlier this season, but in their last ten games they've averaged 6.4.
Meanwhile, Fabens entered their tilt with Mountain View on Tuesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Lobos 3-0.
One reason for the win was Fabens' dynamic defense, which allowed fewer and fewer points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-14.
Ysleta's record is now 12-13. As for Fabens, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
