Softball Game Preview: Akins Eagles vs. Pflugerville Connally Cougars

The Akins Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Pflugerville Connally Cougars at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Akins lost 9-3 to Dripping Springs on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost five in a row.

Akins saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Rae Ramos, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. What's more, Ramos posted two hits, the most she's had since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pflugerville Connally). They never let Ellison get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Tuesday.

Karon Henderson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Henderson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Alexandra Swinney and Emily DeLeon did most of the damage at the plate: Swinney scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while DeLeon scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Caroline Benge was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Pflugerville Connally's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Akins, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
