Softball Game Preview: Leland Chargers vs. Santa Teresa Saints

Leland hasn't had much luck against Santa Teresa recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Chargers will venture away from home to challenge the Saints at 4:00 p.m. Leland has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Leland lost 12-4 to Branham on Tuesday. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aspen Hannigan, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Kiana Van Every also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Santa Teresa, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over Leigh on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Longhorns: they've now won six in a row.

Santa Teresa let Savanna Herbst and Olivia Montes run wild. Herbst scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Montes scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Herbst is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Deanna Hernandez was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Santa Teresa's record is now 6-11. As for Leland, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 3-5.

Leland couldn't quite finish off Santa Teresa when the teams last played back in March and fell 7-5. Can the Chargers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
