Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Gulf Coast's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

Gulf Coast hadn't done well against Cypress Lake recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Sharks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Sharks have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Taylor Stalling was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Gulf Coast got a big performance out of Eve Preddy, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Melissa Hyatt was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Gulf Coast has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cypress Lake, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gulf Coast will challenge Neumann at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cypress Lake, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Gateway at 6:30 p.m. on the 22nd.
