Baseball Game Preview: ABF Academy Cowboys vs. Chaminade-Madonna Lions

The ABF Academy Cowboys will square off against the Chaminade-Madonna Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

ABF Academy saw some tournament action on Thursday. They came up short against Archbishop McCarthy, falling 11-1. The Cowboys have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

ABF Academy got a good showing from Ariel Rivera, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rivera has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brandon Ortiz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Chaminade-Madonna entered their tilt with Union County on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Fightin' Tigers. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Spencer Krasner looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Trace Zalman, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. John Scott Bishop was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

ABF Academy now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Chaminade-Madonna, their victory bumped their record up to 17-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. ABF Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Chaminade-Madonna struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
